Teeth Whitening

Teeth naturally pick up stains over time. They can become discolored due to the foods we eat, the beverages we drink, habits like smoking, medications, and even just part of the normal aging process.

One of the simplest and quickest ways to brighten and take years off your smile is with professional teeth-whitening treatments.

Why Choose Professional Teeth Whitening?

We recommend professional teeth whitening treatments for several reasons, including:

  • Safest for Teeth – Professional treatments are supervised by a dentist and use whitening agents that are 100% safe for teeth. Additionally, we take measures to mitigate any tooth sensitivity following whitening treatments.
  • Faster Results – Professional treatments are more potent than over-the-counter whitening products. As a result, they offer faster results.
  • Better Results – Administered by a dental professional, professional teeth whitening treatments offer more dramatic results without the uneven whitening that can occur with over-the-counter products.
  • Know What to Expect – Additionally, we can help you achieve a naturally white look by tailoring your professional teeth whitening treatments to your specific needs. As a result, we help you achieve an exact result, brightening your teeth as many or as few shades as you desire.

Teeth Whitening Options With Oakwood Dental

At Oakwood Dental, we provide patients with two types of professional teeth whitening treatments. We can help you determine whether in-office or take-home treatments would work best for you.

In-Office Teeth Whitening Treatments

We provide our patients with in-office teeth whitening treatments. Since a dentist supervises them, these treatments are more potent and work slightly more quickly than take-home kits. However, the length and number of whitening sessions can still vary based on the severity of the stains on your teeth and how many shades you intend to whiten.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening Treatments

Take-home teeth whitening kits consist of professional-grade teeth-whitening gel and trays. The system can be custom-designed to offer you a comfortable fit and superior, even whitening results.

When sent home with a take-home whitening kit, we also provide patients with detailed instructions, including how to use the gel and trays, how long to wear them each whitening session, and a schedule of treatments to do on your own.

Take-home kits generally require slightly longer treatment times to achieve the desired whitening results since, for the safety of your tooth enamel, take-home gel is not quite as potent as the gel used during in-office treatments.

Important Note on Teeth Whitening and Dental Appliances

The stain-removing agents in professional teeth whitening treatments are only designed to lift stains and other discoloration from natural teeth. As a result, any dental appliances or dental work cannot be whitened with teeth whitening treatments.

If you have a dental implant, crown, bridge, dental bonding, or veneers that have become stained or damaged in any way, we encourage you to schedule a dental appliance restoration appointment with one of our dentists.

How To Maintain Your Whiter, Brighter Smile

To maintain your professional teeth whitening treatments and keep your smile looking fresh for longer, you can take a double-edged approach to prolong your whitening results.

First, avoid using tobacco products and consuming foods and drinks that can stain teeth, such as red wine, tea, coffee, berries, and chocolate.

Additionally, you can add an at-home, over-the-counter teeth whitening product to your oral hygiene routine, such as a whitening toothpaste or a whitening mouthwash to help keep new stains and discoloration at bay.
